ABOUT our community partner
Established in 2001, this NGO’s mission is to reduce the barriers and stigma of HIV and increase opportunities for children and youth in marginalized communities in South Africa. Through the use of expressional art, participatory learning and narrative therapy, this NGO hopes to equip and inspire youth to create sustainable social change others, while providing education and resources on reproductive health and safer sex.

The photographer will be introduced to the organization’s Director and team. He/she will be working on documenting stories of young people, which will help the organization build online campaigns that promote social justice and catalyze social change in line with the organization’s mission. The organization’s project site visits will include: meeting traditional healer, senior residents, pre-school teachers, as well as programs such as narrative therapy and expressional art activities. The images (and videos) will also be used for fundraising purposes, social media, web-based and traditional communications to motivate their existing supports, attract new supporters and create networks.
Proficient in photo-documentary/photojournalism (and videography)
Excellent interpersonal and communications skills
Open to new experiences
Experience working with vulnerable populations
Must be able to provide a criminal background check
Experience in overseas development and travelling in developing nations
